September 7, 2010
Ah, Fiesta begins! Zozobra is this Thursday. Zozobra
is a very tall scary paper doll/puppet that gets burned at the end of
the evening after a lot of people party, dance, and chant, "burn 'im,
burn 'im...." People
contribute notes on pieces of paper to the stuffing for Zozobra. On these
"notes" are the things they want to erase or expel from their lives. A Santa Fe tradition that goes way back when you could park your car/truck on the grounds at Fort Marcy Park and have a picnic. Now it's standing room only.
The Pet Parade is Saturday morning September 11th. So many interesting pets and their owners.
I'm
also looking forward to the Taos Wool Festival October 2nd and 3rd. It is
one of my favorite weekends during the year--more yarn. I always enjoy the critters and the
sheep dogs herding the people walking around the park.
Is it time to break out those needles and create something warm for the cooler weather? A new baby gets lots of people knitting or crocheting. It's so much fun to create these little sweaters, hats, or booties, and blankets for these little people. It takes a few balls of yarn and a few hours and voila--a charming heirloom. Lace knitting is the rage right now, too. I'm knitting a plaid shawl with worsted weight yarn from a pattern in Debbie Bliss's latest magazine.
